FAQ’s

How many Plates come with the HuMn Wallet?

All wallets come standard with 2 plates, 1 flat elastic shock strap, and 1 microfiber bag.

How long will the flat elastic shock strap last?

It’s hard for us to give exact specifics to the lifespan of the elastic shock straps as climate, humidity, and general use is different for everyone.

How can I get additional flat elastic shock straps?

Soon you will be able to buy additional HuMn Shock Straps in our online shop.

What are the dimensions of the HuMn Wallet?

A single plate measures: 2.95″ x 4.25″ x 0.05″ (the thickness for 2 plates would be 0.10″)

Carbon fiber 2 plate: 20 grams
Carbon fiber 3 plate (center plate is Al): 60 grams
Aluminum 2 plate: 40 grams
Aluminum 3 Plate: 80 grams

Is only the carbon fiber wallet RFID proof?

Both aluminum and carbon fiber wallets shield against RFID signals.

If I only use one plate, will my cards still be protected against RFID signals?

While it is possible for your cards to be protected using only 1 plate, we highly recommend that you use two plates to shield against RFID skimming.

I noticed that some of the straps have a colored stripe in the video you posted. The ones on the website are not colored. Do you plan on offering these in the future?

    • humndesign July 3, 2012 at 4:00 am #

@Prologue We’re working on colored straps however, they would most likely be solid (non striped).  We found the striped versions are limited to a weave pattern that’s not durable enough for our QC.  We hope to be offering colored straps but they’ll need to meet our QC standards.

I’m very interested in purchasing a carbon fiber HuMn wallet. Unfortunately, I do not see them available on your store.

    • humndesign August 1, 2012 at 4:27 pm #

@Wynand Our CF model’s on hold until we can obtain final commitments from our mfg/supplier.  We’ll be sure to make an announcement once we’re ready to go.  There’s a chance we’ll be releasing a batch of “cosmetic blem” CF wallets at a nice discount.  Details to come.  Thanks for checking.

just found your site.  I’ve been looking for a wallet that would “hide” my cards so I can try and go “cash only” for day-to-day purchases, and the two-panel version looks like exactly what I am looking for.

One question: I have two heavily used RFID cards (work pass and subway pass).  I was hoping that positioning them on the outside of the two-panel setup would allow me to use them on an everyday basis.  Ideally, work and subway passes would work when I held the whole wallet up against the reader.

Is this the case? I saw videos on youtube where even a single layer prevented an RFID work card from actuating the reader.  This would be a deal breaker, unfortunately.  Thanks!

@JimToepel Using my Work and Bus cards like this
Bus card don’t seem to work but I haven’t tried them much, as it’s pretty quick to just slide it out of the strap when embarking
      The work pass works flawlessly

Hi Jim…we understand your concern.  I use my RF cards on the outside of my wallet and it works fine.  At times I’ll have to press hard or slap up against the reader but it works.  However, we can’t speak for all RF readers out there.  The bottom line is the strength of the RF reader will determine how effective it’ll read thru the shock strap portion of the wallet.  Hope this helps.

Hi, I just got my HuMn wallet – it looks great, but – I may be doing something wrong – I find it extremely difficult to insert and take out my cards. The strap seems so tight (if that is the right word). It looks so easy on your video – is there a trick to it or am I just too stupid?
    Regards from Vienna, Austria

    • Humnwallet August 14, 2012 at 5:20 pm #

@ergo4349 Be sure to check out the “How to Use” vid…select the wallet configuration you have (2 or 3 plates).  On our website on the top, select EVOLVE-HOW TO USE.
Shock strap is meant to be tight at first so it can hold your wallet together securely.  Will loosen a bit after usage.  Let us know if you need anything else.

@Humnwallet thanks a lot for the quick reply!

      • ergo4349 August 15, 2012 at 4:30 pm #

@Humnwallet Sorry, it’s me again. On your website there seem to be only videos for 1 and 3 plates (when I click on the 2 plates-video, the 3 plates-video is played). From the 3 plate-video I gather that there was a misunderstanding (on my part?) – my 3 plates are identical in shape, so there’s obviously no way to use the wallet like it is shown in your video.

        • Humnwallet August 15, 2012 at 5:35 pm #

@ergo4349 You’re right….we’ll get that fixed.  Here’s the direct link:
          Youtube.com/user/humnwallet?feature=mhee

Sorry but not understanding your last question.

        • ergo4349 August 15, 2012 at 10:55 pm #

@Humnwallet Sorry if I wasn’t clear. In the video, the middle one of the three plates has two rounded corners. My third plate has only one, so it is identical in shape to the two plates used for the 2-plate configuration. As I said, there may have been a misunderstanding on my part – maybe the third plate I got is just meant to be a substitute for one of the other two.

        • Humnwallet August 15, 2012 at 11:05 pm #

@ergo4349 Outer plates have 1 thumb tab cutout and center plates have 2.  You have the choice of an outer or center plate for a 3rd plate option.

        • ergo4349 August 16, 2012 at 12:15 pm #

@Humnwallet Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, when I ordered, I didn’t realize that the center plate had a different design. Well, so now I have 3 outer plates…

Hello, I just receive mine CF HuMn and an additional AL plate. The CF is bigger than the AL plate, is it right?

    • Humnwallet August 15, 2012 at 1:45 am #

@hdellamanna If the AL plate is a center plate then yes, it is meant to be slightly smaller.  This prevents the outer plates from pinching the center plate when opening.  Hope this helps and thanks for backing us!

Hello, I got my wallet today and I tried to put my bus card (RFID) outside of the wallet but seems it is not functioning w/ the reader. Are there any solution to solve this issue?

  8. Humnwallet August 16, 2012 at 3:15 am #

Hi Clement, the issue is most likely the lack of strength from the reader.  Some readers are not strong enough requiring the card to be pressed flat against the reader.  This would mean you’d have to slide the card out of the shock strap.  I’ve experienced both scenarios.  I found it can help to press hard or slap the card against the reader (while on the outside of the wallet).  Ultimately, depends on the reader.    Hope this helps.

    • ClementTang August 16, 2012 at 3:20 am #

@Humnwallet Thx a lot for the quick reply, I will give a try later. :)

i have my humn wallet in a humid area — will you be making a coated logo for the strap so that it will not rust?

    • Humnwallet August 17, 2012 at 4:35 pm #

@StephenWong Hi Stephen, good question and something we’ll look into.  We haven’t had any rust issues but we’re not in an ultra high humidity area.  If you don’t mind, let us know how the strap fastener does over time.

  10. clsmallwood August 25, 2012 at 5:11 am #

I would REALLY prefer the Carbon Fiber… any update on when/if that will be available?

    • Humnwallet August 25, 2012 at 6:06 am #

@clsmallwood We hear ya!  No dates yet but we’re so working on it.  Thanks for checking!

    • Humnwallet October 8, 2012 at 10:20 pm #

@clsmallwood Just wanted to make sure saw that our CF model is now available.  It is the “irregular” model but at least it comes with a nice discount.  Otherwise, still working on it.  Be awesome!

ordered my wallet 4 days ago… why still in processing???

    • Humnwallet September 4, 2012 at 10:16 pm #

@AnthonyLockett Hello Anthony, your order was shipped today.  Your order arrived Friday PM, the 31st.  Due to the weekend and Monday (Labor Day) being a national holiday, the fulfillment company didn’t ship any orders out yesterday.  Thank you for your patience and welcome to the HuMn Nation!

  12. Cheners October 8, 2012 at 9:40 pm #

I have attempted to order 4 aluminium wallets for delivery to Florida, the shipping of which is calculated as ‘Free’ as I progress through the online ordering, including when I update my cart prior to going to checkout, but when I get to checkout, the site adds $15 for USPS 1st Class shipping?? Thoughts?

  13. Lindsay November 6, 2012 at 1:34 pm #

I am interested in the carbon fiber. Is the only one available the “irregular”? Is the build your own still the irregular?

    • Ken Minn November 6, 2012 at 4:43 pm #

Hi Lindsay, our remaining CF plates are all “irregulars”. Therefore, the heavily discounted price. Feel free to check out some reviews on the CF wallets on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/humndesign and scroll down to Oct 11. Let us know if you have further questions. Be awesome!

  14. Ben Gubar November 16, 2012 at 12:57 am #

    Hey there,
I just got my HumnWallet today, and was very impressed. I have a question though: I’m concerned about cards slipping out the bottom. Is there a limit to the number of cards that I can put into it, and not have to worry about bottom “slippage”?

    • Ken Minn November 16, 2012 at 9:18 pm #

Hi Ben, you should be fine. The shock cord provides enough tension to hold the contents securely. We typically don’t recommend more than 8-10 cards however, if it’s a must to carry more, we’d highly recommend adding a center plate. This will enable you to carry more cards securely. Hope this helps and welcome to the HuMn Nation!

  15. Bentley Gubar November 20, 2012 at 11:17 pm #

    Hey Ken,
I’ve been trying to open your response to my question.  Can you either email it to me, or post it?  Thanks…oh, and have a happy Thanksgiving!

  16. OraT November 21, 2012 at 10:12 am #

I frequently use two different RFID cards which I keep in my wallet, the problem is that they interfere with each other forcing me to remove either the card I want to use or the other card from the wallet.

I am looking for a wallet that can store two RFID cards on separate sides of a shielding plate (but without a shielding surface on the out side of the card) so that I can just flip the wallet and use which ever card I want without removing them as well as a few other cards (such as credit cards) and a few euro bills safely. Could your product do this?
    Regards Karl

    • Humnwallet November 21, 2012 at 5:12 pm #

      @OraT
      Hello Karl,
The HuMn Wallet Mini’s configuration should allow you to put both RF cards on the outside compartments (1 on each outer side).

I keep my 1 RF card on the outside and never have to take it out.  I’m able to simply place it against the reader (with the wallet) and I’m good to go.

Keep in mind, it will come down to the strength/sensitivity of your RF reader.  Also, some readers may require the RF card to be perfectly “flat” against the surface to get a consistent read.  Something to keep in mind as the shock strap may create a possible layer.

      Hope this helps.

      Ken

      • Sennick February 3, 2013 at 4:02 pm #

I used to keep my RF card in a leather wallet and never had a problem with the signal on any reader.

However the separation due to Humnwallet elastic band causes a real problem with most readers. Very strange, its as if the wallet is acting as a radio sink.

But the good news is that the RF credit cards inside must be secure.

        • Ken Minn February 4, 2013 at 12:51 am #

Hi Steve, the elastic shock strap may be an issue with some RF readers. We’ve heard some RF readers require a completely FLAT contact with the card to read successfully. At the same time, our experience with a few of our RF cards are not having an issue. We’ve also found some RF cards have a front and back where the front has an easier time of being read successfully. Something you may want to try. Hope this helps.
